May Favorites

Another month has quickly passed by which means… May Favorites! These are some of my favorite posts to write because I get to share with all of you my favorite products tried and tested! I also love giving credit to these products because they are what keep me going, to be honest. So without further ado let’s jump into it!

  1. Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleaning Water ($8.99)
I have been so excited to talk about this product, I’ve been waiting all month to share my thoughts on this! Micellar Cleansing Water has been getting a lot of hype lately with different brands making and selling their own version and I personally think it is totally worth the hype! I was a little curious as to what Micellar Water actually is so I did a little searching and here’s what I found from Huffington Post: “micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water. The idea is that micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin. Therefore, micellar water can be used as a facial wash, makeup remover and moisturizer all in one.” This sounds really great, right? And I can vouch that this stuff does what it IMG_3361claims. I’ve gotten the Garner All in One version as well as the waterproof one and I am loving them both. I use the pink capped one (pictured above) for everyday use and used it in a DIY makeup remover pad tutorial you can find here that I have been absolutely loving. I use the waterproof one for hard to remove makeup and waterproof products and it works wonders. I also got the Pearlessence one with cactus water. Personally, I prefer the Garnier version because I find it removes more makeup but this one is great to use after you shower to remove any stubborn makeup. I highly recommend Micellar Water. I’ve been using it for a little over a month now and haven’t had any problem with it at all. It’s very gentle and pretty much just feels like water with no scent to it. You can find this product at any drugstore such as CVS, Target, Walgreens, as well as Ulta. You can also buy it on Amazon.

  2. KISS 100 Full-Cover Nails (Price May Vary — Approx. $5-10)
I’ve never been the kind of girl 5f651b85-ae29-4300-aa8e-50eeac1db45f_1.b767f561f3214c7b4a91fa3ccb753b91who wears acrylic nails. I prefer having my nails on the shorter side and I like having natural nails. I also am on a budget being a college student and having my nails done is not a top priority of mine. I do, however, like to have my nails looking nice and presentable. Do you see my struggle? From time to time my nails decide to rebel against be and break left and right leaving me looking like I’ve just attempted to dig my way to the center of the earth. When this happens I’m stuck with two options: I can either drop the $40 and get them done or put up with it until they start to look better. But then I discovered the KISS brand of false nails. Here’s why I love these: they look so natural, they come in a variety of shapes and sizes and lengths, and you can paint them yourself. The KISS brand has nails the are “pre-painted” with designs, but sometimes I just wanna use my go-to color. Seriously, they look so natural people always make comments of how lucky I am to have such long nails… *awkwardly laughs*… But hey, the more believable the better. This set comes with 100 nails that are semi-opaque that can be filed to your desired shape and length. It also comes with a super strong nail glue that will hold them on for about a week. BE CAREFUL THOUGH! The bottle looks like eyedrops so don’t keep it anywhere near where you keep your eyedrops (if you use them for contacts or anything) because this mistake has happened! Also be very careful when putting the nails on and not to get your fingers stuck together. If any glue gets on your hands, don’t worry! It’ll chip away once it dries. I also like to put glue on the false nail as well as my real nail to get a good bond between the two. You can find these at CVS, Walmart, Target, and Amazon.

  3. LORAC Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette ($30.00)
Lorac_Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_summer_2017_makeup_collection1This has easily become my favorite cheek palette on the market right now. I’m a sucker for packaging and anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with astronomy. Put a cheek/highlighting palette in front of be with stars and constellations on it and I’m sold. But I also am a huge fan of LORAC’s highlighters.IMG_4114 So when I saw this I knew I had to have it. It comes with 4 highlighters, 1 bronzer, and 1 blush. For reference, these products are about the same size as a Colourpop eyeshadow, maybe a little larger. The swatches I took were 2 swipes of each color, so you can see a little goes a long way.
    Swatches (From top to bottom)
Fortune — a frosty white highlighter
Destined — a bronzy highlighter with a silver shift
Star Reader — a gold-champagne highlighter with a peach shift
Lost Soul — a pink toned matte bronzer
    Caribbean — a coral-pink matte blush
Bold Spirit — a rose gold highlighter with a silver shift
All these colors are creamy, buttery, and soft without being too powdery. I used “Destined” on a girl for her prom and she looked stunning. It’s blinding enough without being too overpowering. I love all these so much I could talk about them all day. This is an exclusive palette so make sure you don’t miss out on it! You can buy it at Ulta or on the LORAC website.

  4. Pearlessence Charcoal Neroli Facial Scrub ($5.99)
tjxI’d heard a lot about the Pealessence brand and have been very eager to try it, but I was never able to find it. I’ve come to realize this brand is like a unicorn: you know it’s out there but you don’t know where to look. So when I finally found it, I stocked up on every product that was available including this charcoal neroli facial scrub. I hadn’t heard about this product in particular but again, I was really just wanting to try it all. I’m always very cautious when it comes to facial products because I have very sensitive skin and I worry about having a bad reaction. But at the time my skin wasn’t lookin’ too hot as is so I figured I would have nothing to lose. Based off the description I was able to gather that it is a “gentle exfoliating facial scrub with purifying Activated Charcoal that removes impurities, absorbs oil, and detoxifies.” Charcoal is very popular right now and I’ve never heard anything bad about it, so I figured it had to have at least some benefits. When I first opened it, it looked like it had separated with what looked like water on the top. But as I started using it I realized it wasn’t water, it was soybean oil. I then followed the instructions on the back and once I rinsed it off, my skin had never felt so soft and smooth. I know a large part of this was the soybean oil because it had stayed on my skin even after rinsing but I didn’t make any extra effort to wipe it off. The next morning I realized I had washed my face with gold. My skin looked so good with all my problem spots from the day before gone. I was shocked something I got for $5.99 could do THAT. I also got this from TJMaxx, who knew? When I looked online at where else you can buy this, I came up empty. The only website was TJMaxx and even there it said it was no longer in stock, but that just means on the website! If you go to the actual store, they should have a ton of Pearlessence products. This specific product also comes in Coconut Rose which I also got and am also loving.

  5. Glossier Balm Dotcom ($12.00)
Balm_01-compressorI have struggled with chapped lips all my life. I’ve tried everything from medicated to non-medicated products and nothing’s ever really stuck. I’ve had success with some products but they don’t work longer than a day before my lips go back to the painful curse. I kick myself because I’ve had this product for months and yet haven’t started using it up until recently. Glossier is a newer cosmetic grand with some awesome products, including their skin and lip salve. Here’s the description found on the Glossier website: “[a] hydrating, long-lasting, multipurpose lip and skin salve that’s packed with antioxidants and natural emollients to nourish and repair dry, chafed skin. The dense, waxy texture stays in place to seal in moisture wherever it goes.” This stuff has saved my lip’s lives. It has made them soft and smooth for days on end without any issues. There are different flavors such as coconut and cherry or you can go with the original. I have the original and it’s the only one I’ve tried so far so I can really only vouch for the original but I’m sure they’re all the same! You can buy this product here and have it automatically shipped to you every 1-3 months if you choose!

  6. Physicians Formula Butter Blush in Natural Glow ($12.95)
6833_1_1In my April Favorites, I raved about the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer and said I wanted to try out the blush by the same name. Of course I had to try it and after being so happy with the bronzer, I didn’t hesitate with the blush. I got the shade Natural Glow and I absolutely love it. It has that same beach-y scent

as the bronzer and has a similar luminous finish like the bronzer. What I love about this is that it looks dewy as opposed to sparkly, it’s smooth and buttery, and it really does give me a glow-from-within appearance. This is a IMG_4602great blush for anyone who doesn’t necessarily like blush because it is so subtle but it gives life to your cheeks. As you can tell from this swatch, I have very pale skin but it’s still visible. It’s a bit shimmery without being overwhelming. I really am a huge fan of this and I think it would go great with any skin tone. This also comes in the shade Plum Rose, Vintage Rouge, and Rosy Pink. I’ve only tried the Natural Glow one so far since that’s the only one I’ve been able to get my hands on but I can’t wait to try the others! You can find this at Target, CVS, Walgreens, and Ulta as well as on the Physicians Formula website.

  7. Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer ($24.00)
sbx_sku_68224_875x773_0Another item in my makeup bag that I’ve had forever but haven’t really used and appreciated up until recently. I’m one of those people who always makes the excuse “but I don’t have it in matte” when I want another lipstick that’s the same color as all the others. I’m also that type of person who prefers matte lipstick finishes to a cream one. So what to do when you find the perfect color but it’s not matte? You use this magic. Just apply a little bit of this on top off a cream lipstick and BAM it’s matte. I’ve found that lipsticks also tend to look different based on the finish so if I have a color I’m not loving but don’
want it to go to waste, this is a life saver. Not only does it look better but I also get to use a product I might not have earlier
Here’s an example of what I mean in the photo to the right. This is a supposed dupe for MAC’s Freckle Tone lipstick. It’s a far different color than I normally wear so I wanted to try the dupe out before splurging on the real deal. When I first applied it I really didn’t like it. It was too glossy for me and the FullSizeRender 32color washed me out (left). So I tried it with the Smashbox top-coat (right) and then fell in love. It made it a more flattering shade and although it’s not obvious when swatched, it was clear when I put it on. So before throwing out all the colors you wanted to try, use this product and you might change your mind! You can find this at Sephora, Ulta, and the Smashbox website.
**Lipstick featured: Rimmel London — Nude Delight

  8. L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye Paints ($8.99)
A newer product from L’Oreal are these beautiful eyeshadow paints. L’Oreal is in the process of releasing a ton of new products that I am so excited for. When I saw these in the store I knew I had to try them for 2 main reasons: they’re stunning and I was very curious. These shadows are double sided with some having both mattes, IMG_4542both shimmery, or one of each. I picked up the shades Cool Ivory (#316) and Sunset Fire (#314). I swatched them both so you can see what they look like on my skin tone. Cool Ivory has 2 shimmery shades: one is a light champagne (top left) and the other side is a golden champagne (top right). These are so pretty to use as a highlight shade on the brow bone or inner corner of the eye to make the look bright and awake. Sunset Fire is a gorgeous, must have shade for summer with a shimmery coral shade on one side (bottom left) and a matte tangerine shade on the other side (bottom right). I haven’t gotten a chance to really play around with these but so far I’m loving them. They seem to be a liquid-cream to powder finish so you can blend them out even after they’ve dried. But what’s great is that once it’s on it won’t fade or wipe away. I’m really excited to try out the other shades and I think these will be great for summer! These come in 12 shades and you can find them at any drugstore including Ulta.

  9. L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara ($9.99)
2510037In my opinion, L’Oreal is killing it with these new product releases in all categories. I’m pretty picky when it comes to mascara and have my ride or dies, but I’m always open to try different ones. In all honesty I really only bought this because I saw that it was being used at Cannes on the L’Oreal Instagram page and had to give it a try. I am also a huge sucker for packaging and this one is a 10/10 in my opinion. It’s sticking to this whole rosy blush trend that I’ve been loving lately (enough to change my room to match it despite not loving pink). So I picked this up at Target as soon as I saw it and got the very last one in “Blackest Black.” When I tried it I immediately thought of Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara. I tried this one on one eye and Too Faced’s on the other and DUPE ALERT! This is an almost exact dupe for it for half the price! I definitely recommend this mascara for anyone who likes lashes that look full, voluminous, and plush. This won’t make your lashes clump so you’ll get a natural look that also gives you a little boost in you eyelash game.

  10. Gourmand EDP Fragrance in Lait De Coco ($18.00)
35402403_010_bAnd last, but most certainly not least, is this light coconut fragrance I picked up from Urban Outfitters. I wouldn’t say I collect perfume and sprays but I definitely go through phases where using the word “collect” would be appropriate. One of my favorite compliments ever is being told I smell good. I take a lot of pride in this and strive to smell good! But finding a fragrance can be tricky. Your body chemistry can make something that smells incredible on someone else make you smell like the inside of your 87-year-old grandmother’s closet. So when I picked this up I was a little hesitant but not enough to prevent me from trying this out. I have been in search of a perfume to wear over the summer that is light enough to wear daily no matter what the activity may be and I have been struggling. But then I found this one. It has a very light coconut scent that smells amazing and just like summer. It’s a perfect scent for everyday wear that won’t call too much attention to the fact you’re wearing perfume to the beach which I love. Something that also surprised me about this perfume is that it’s white! It looks like a milky so don’t let it throw you off! Definitely give this a try, it won’t let you down!

So that is all I have for this month’s favorites! I hope you all enjoyed this post and found it helpful!
