My Favorite Makeup Highlighters

If I could only pick 3 makeup products to have, one of them would definitely be highlighter. There’s something about highlighter that makes me feel put together and pretty… if I forget highlighter, I feel like I have a bad makeup day.

Even though a lot of highlighters look similar (I disagree, but some might say), I can never have too many of them. There are so many different types of highlighters and I rarely will wear 1 highlighter two days in a row.

Since highlighters have been on the rise in recent years, I thought it might be fun to share with you guys some of my favorites and also hear from you what your favorites are! I’m always down to try new highlighters and if you are too, then this post is for you!

Here are some of my favorite, go-to highlighters (both high-end and drugstore) that I can’t live without. Of course this list will always be changing but these are some of my favorites!

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy

First up we got a newer highlight on the market! Ever since this came out, the beauty world has been obsessed (me included). When I first saw this I will admit I didn’t plan to buy it. As a girl with fair skin, this looked a little dark. I don’t normally go for these golden highlights because they do tend to be on the darker side. But when I swatched it at Sephora, I realized that this is a true gem because it looks good on everyone. It’s not too dark for fair skin, but not too light for dark skin either. I don’t know how Amrezy did it, but she did it. This highlighter is described as a “champagne light/medium gold with a warm, yellow undertone” (Temptalia). This is a blinding highlight that can be built up which is something I love since I can wear a minimal amount during the day, then build it up for night time. This is a higher end highlight that retailed for $29 and is unfortunately no longer available for purchase. But if you’re bummed you missed it or have no way to get it, OFRA’s Rodeo Drive is a comparable dupe!

SophX Makeup Revolution Highlighter Palette

Another (hidden) gem, but this time from the drugstore! I’ve mentioned this collaboration before, but haven’t really mentioned the highlighter pallet. This is an awesome pallet for many different reasons: it caters to different skin tones, it’s crazy affordable for only $12 at Ulta (yes, $12 that is not a typo), and you get a lot of shades. In this pallet you get 5 baked and 3 pressed shades that really all do pack a punch. My favorite is the last one on the top row because it really give that glow-from-within look but can also be built up. All of these are so gorgeous and if you can get your hands on it, definitely try it out.

Dose of Colors Supreme Glow Highlighter in Milk N’ Honey

Another one of my go-to highlights recently has been this one from Dose of Colors. For a long time, I had no access to Dose of Colors and was too nervous to buy anything I hadn’t seen in person. Thankfully, Ulta has recently started to carry the brand so I got to swatch their highlighters in store and kicked myself for not taking the risk of just buying it online because I was missing out. On the Ulta website, this highlight looks a lot more yellow then it does in person. To me, this highlighter is more of a white-gold color that can be built up, but I wouldn’t say it looks how it does on the website. Again, another highlight you can build up and doesn’t have any glitter which is something I prefer my highlighters not have. So if you’ve been looking at these online, do not let their swatches deceive you! Take the leap and don’t miss out!

Colourpop Pressed Highlighter in Here Kitty Kitty

I’ve mentioned this one in a monthly favorites before, and it continues to be a favorite of mine. Honestly, Colourpop has come to dominate and with their price point ($8), the brand is unbeatable. This gives my skin a wet looking finish without looking like I’m sweating. I think this is one of the most beautiful highlighters on the market and I’ve heard it looks amazing on all types of skin tones. On the website it has a 5 star review with 161 people checking in. I highly recommend this to anyone, especially if you’re on a budget!

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Highlighter in 01

This is a newer addition to my collection and it has quickly become one of my favorites. This is a really interesting highlighter because it is a highlighter, but it is also matte… I know what you’re thinking: highlighters aren’t matte. I know! But somehow this one is! This can be super blinding very easily, so if you want a more natural look apply with a lighter hand. That’s what I love about this… it can look really natural or really stand out depending on the amount you apply. This isn’t glittery at all but has a nice sheen that really gives you a healthy glow. You can buy this highlighter at Sephora or where ever Laura Mercier is sold!

NARS Highlighting Blush in Hot Sand

Despite its name, I don’t think of this as a blush at all. A blush topper maybe, but not a blush. To me, this is a more natural looking highlighter that is described as “peach champagne” on the NARS website. I love using this on days where I have a more natural makeup look but want to have a subtle glow. Because this isn’t technically a highlighter, it isn’t super over-the-top and I think is a great go-to highlight for anyone dabbling in makeup and wants a natural glow-from-within. There is also a liquid version of this that I’ve been dying to try, but the powder version is a tried and true for me.

LORAC Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette

Another product that I’ve mentioned before and still a favorite of mine is this cheek palette from LORAC. I feel like LORAC is such an under-hyped brand that no one talks about but should. If you haven’t tried LORAC highlighters before, you are missing out big time. One of my most favorites, though, is the one called Star Reader. This is a really unique highlighter that I love to wear when I wanna blind the astronauts. This was a limited edition palette, but LORAC has slowly been releasing singles of the shades from this palette. If you don’t want to wait, however, Temptalia has a list of dupes that you can try out instead!

Kylie Cosmetics Kylighter in French Vanilla

Say what you want about Kylie Jenner and the Kardashians, but they know business and Kylie knows how to make a good highlight. I know there is a lot of controversy around Kylie’s brand and I’m not saying you need to buy this highlighter by any means, but it is a great product. This one is very similar to the Dose of Colors one but they are different to me. Kylie’s formula is great and very buildable and also gorgeous. If you aren’t interested in putting out the money for this one though, Makeup Revolution has their Vivid Baked Highlighters with Golden Lights as a supposed dupe and retails for $6 as opposed to $22.

Cream Highlighter

And last but not least, I wanted to mention my favorite cream highlighters is you prefer cream over powder. My favorites are the Colourpop Super Shock Highlighter in Lunch Money, the Clinique Hefty Highlight Chubby Stick, and the Benefit Watt’s Up! highlight. IMG_6963All 3 of these are very different as far as undertones go. Colourpop’s Lunch Money is a soft light gold that is very blinding. This has a huge cult following and for good reason. Again, the price is unbeatable and it is gorgeous.
Benefit Watt’s Up! is a fan favorite that comes in a stick form. It is a really pretty champagne color that many people use for weddings. I personally used this for my prom in high school and my pictures turned out great. It’s very soft but very beautiful and if a highlighter could be described as “romantic” then that would be the word I’d use.
Lastly, Clinique’s Hefty Highlight is one I like to use on no-makeup makeup days. It is definitely a highlighter with a pink undertone but blends out to be a softer pink that makes you have a healthy looking glow.

I hope you guys liked this post! If you guys liked this one, I can continue this series with natural looking highlighters for those no-makeup makeup days that has been super popular!
